In New Hanover County in 2016,
1 out of every 71 dogs tested positive for Lyme Disease!
1 out of every 20 dogs tested positive for Ehrlichiosis!
1 out of every 368 dogs tested positive for Anaplasmosis!
These serious tick borne diseases can be prevented, and if detected early, have a much more successful outcome.
At Atlantic Animal Hospital, we are proud to provide a complete diagnostic test to detect Heartworm (D. immitis), Lyme (B. burgdorferi), Ehrlichiosis( E.canis, E. ewingii) and Anaplasmosis (A. phagocytophilum, A. platys). It is the same price as your standard heartworm test but with the added benefit of screening for tick borne infections.
The Companion Animal Parasite Council and the American Heartworm Association recommend annual heartworm and tick borne disease screening to keep your pet healthy. Atlantic Animal Hospital has always recommended annual heartworm testing but, based on the significant risk of these diseases to your pet, beginning May 1st we will require annual testing.
We have provided useful links so you may access more information on the Companion Animal Parasite Council, The American Heartworm Association, or learn more about these diseases and their prevalence in our area.
